Stylist Magazine
Editorial writing & media pitching
Turning a local recommendation into a national print feature.
I was selected to contribute to Stylist magazine after pitching a story idea to its editorial team for a local print guide. The opportunity allowed me to combine editorial storytelling with my knowledge of independent spaces, creating a concise recommendation tailored to the publication's audience and tone of voice.
The challenge
The brief was to recommend a local destination that captured the character and spirit of its city — something distinctive that would appeal to both people who know the area and visitors looking to discover somewhere new.
The challenge was to communicate the personality of the venue in a limited amount of space, creating enough intrigue to make readers want to visit.
The approach
I pitched The Woods, a characterful independent bar in Bristol that I felt captured the city's creative and independent spirit.
My recommendation focused on the details that made the venue distinctive, from its eclectic interiors and welcoming atmosphere to its appeal as a destination for people looking for something beyond the usual city-centre experience.
The copy was crafted specifically for Stylist's editorial style and audience — concise, engaging and descriptive, while giving readers a strong sense of place.
What I delivered
Developed and pitched the story idea
Tailored the concept to the editorial brief
Researched and selected the venue
Wrote the final editorial copy
Adapted tone, structure and messaging for a print audience
The result
The pitch was accepted by the Stylist editorial team and featured in the magazine's local print guide.
Being selected for publication demonstrated my ability to identify a compelling story, pitch it effectively and translate an idea into concise editorial copy that resonates with a defined audience.
The impact
The feature marked a particularly proud moment in my writing career and reinforced my ability to work beyond commercial copywriting, bringing storytelling, observation and editorial thinking into my work.
A local story, pitched with purpose and written to make readers want to discover it for themselves.
